Salar Jung Museum is the country's third largest museum and houses some priceless collections. Prime Minister for Hyderabad's seventh Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, Nawab Mir Yusuf Ali Khan Salar Jung III had a passion for collecting  antiques. His collections were earlier housed in a private museum at his ancestral palace called 'Diwan Deodi'. These collections were shifted to the present site, when the museum shifted from Diwan Deodi to Afzalgunj. It is one of the most famous Hyderabad tourist attractions that gets plenty of visitors annually. The administration of the Salar Jung Museum has been undertaken by a Board of Trustees along with the Governor of the state acting as the ex officio chairperson.
